Paper is by far the single biggest component of a print job where you, the customer, can influence the environmental credentials of your printed material.

We all know that recycled paper is good for the environment... isn’t it? Not necessarily. There are many other influential factors that determine the environmental credentials of a paper stock:

  • Does the paper come from a sustainably managed forest?
  • What chemicals are used in the manufacturing process?
  • Does the production process have a certification?
  • How is waste and energy used in the manufacturing process?
  • The paper industry is very aware of these issues and has been pro-active in embracing a number of accreditation initiatives designed to give consumers the information and confidence needed to make informed decisions about paper.

Some of the labels to look out for include ISO14001, EMAS, EU Flower, Nordic Swan, Blue Angel, FSC, Recycled Content, Chlorine Free and Sustainable Forest Management.

Your Greenprint® licensed supplier is well placed to advise you of the best paper choice to get the print results you’re after while satisfying your environmental aims. Alternatively, most paper merchants carry documentation that explains in detail what all the various environmental credentials mean.

Any paper that uses one of the above
accreditations may qualify as
environmentally responsible under
the Greenprint® initiative.
